In-Office: Hybrid, 2-3 Days a Week
The Fire Safety Officer will support the Nuclear Facilities group within the department is responsible for operating Candu’s SP3 facility, which has a Licensed Controlled Area. The team is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the SP3 Facility including the management of all facility assets and equipment. This individual is responsible for supporting both the Nuclear License Compliance Team and the Facilities Team in areas related to the specific fire protection systems and requirements as outlined by law, regulations and the regulator
Your role within the Team:
- Review fire hazard analyses, assessments, and other fire safety documentation for compliance with applicable codes, legislation, municipal requirements and our nuclear license.
- Review and evaluate requests for fire safety exemptions and equivalencies.
- Ensure notifications of fire system impairments are sent to the applicable parties.
- Oversee inspections and witness tests of building fire protection systems to determine compliance with plans and specifications, and applicable standards and regulations.
- Review of the inspection, testing and maintenance procedures for fire equipment/systems in accordance with the applicable codes and standards.
- Collaborate with Fire Systems contractors to ensure code compliance related to the inspection, testing, and maintenance of fire protection equipment/systems.
- Updating or review of compliance Fire Protection Program.
- Ongoing review of laws, regulations, codes and standards in order to judge compliance of facility operations as well as alignment with internal documentation.
- Assist with preparing documents such as Work Plans, JSAs, hot work permits, Test Plans, and Test Reports as they relate to fire protection.
- Represent the fire protection program as the subject matter expert.
- On an ongoing basis expect to provide comments on procedures or forms being prepared, typically this has included those generated under the compliance programs or for facility operations. These reviews are to:
o Ensure requirements and process is aligned with actual operations and/or facility management direction / expectations
o Ensure compliance programs / license requirements / regulatory requirements match within document
o Ensure a quality document is produced (flow, typos, editorial comments
