JOB TITLE: Vice President, Business Development
PURPOSE OF JOB: Reporting to the Senior Vice President Strategic Development, the role of the Vice President, Business Development is to lead the opportunity identification and business winning activities and growth strategy. While the primary focus of the role is to grow the business organically, the Vice President, Business Development is also expected to support the Business Unit’s inorganic strategy through identification of potential acquisition targets. This position is based in Halifax, NS however having Operating Units across Canada and customers around the world, this role will require travel both domestically and internationally.
DUTIES REQUIRED TO ACCOMPLISH JOB: SHALL INCLUDE BUT NOT NECESSARILY BE LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
Responsibility for all business development activities including market research, opportunity detection, assessment and tracking, intelligence gathering, competitor analysis, business case development, capture plan development and preparation and execution of Bid/No-bid Reviews;
Responsibility for development and regular maintenance of relationships with existing and potential customers including platform and system OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers and End Users/Operators;
Responsibility for recruitment and management of appropriate agents, use of Global Affairs Canada Trade Offices/Embassies, foreign military attachés and other Canadian governmental organizations including CCC, EDC and others;
Development & maintenance of relationships with key internal stakeholders across all Business and Operating Units;
Development and maintenance of marketing collateral (such as advertising, merchandising, etc) to support business development activities;
Assist with strategic planning at both the Business and Operating Unit levels.
Representation of the Company at appropriate trade shows and other industry events to support business development activities and wider strategic initiatives;
Where required, provision of support to the Operating Units for proposal management, preparation and review;
Leadership and direction of geographically dispersed business development team including recruitment, personnel development, objective setting and performance management;
Assist with continuous improvement of Business Winning processes and tools;
Assist in identifying potential acquisition targets as well as strategic teaming arrangements;
Other duties as assigned to support the Business and Operating Units.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or related field; MBA preferred. Equivalent military experience will be considered.
SPECIAL SKILLS OR KNOWLEDGE: Excellent communication and presentation skills (verbal & written). Strong business acumen and ability to identify and develop beneficial business leads & opportunities. Track record of success in aerospace and/or defence markets is considered essential. A proven ability to lead remote teams is considered an asset.
TYPE AND AMOUNT OF EXPERIENCE: Minimum 15 years experience with a demonstrated progression in levels of responsibility including in a senior leadership capacity. Combined experience in the two or more of the following areas preferred: Business Development, Sales, Contracts, Product Support or Program Management. Experience as a capture lead for complex sales is highly desired.
