Salary: $128,000 - $159,000
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Engineering Specialist to lead and manage complex safety and thermal system engineering initiatives. In this role, you will provide technical expertise, supervise a dedicated team, and contribute to the advancement of cutting-edge solutions in thermal-fluid sciences and safety engineering. Key Responsibilities
- Lead Engineering Initiatives: Plan, coordinate, and oversee engineering projects with complex features, applying advanced techniques and diversified knowledge of engineering principles.
- Technical Oversight: Review technical documents prepared by the team to ensure accuracy and compliance with established standards.
- Project Management: Prepare and monitor budgets, estimates, schedules, and work packages, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality results.
- Innovative Solutions: Develop new approaches to solve complex problems by modifying theories, guides, and practices in safety and thermal systems.
- Collaboration & Representation: Act as the section representative in meetings to resolve issues and coordinate efforts across teams. Represent the branch or department when required.
- Team Leadership: Supervise, coordinate, and review the work of engineers and support staff, providing mentorship and guidance.
- Performance Management: Contribute to performance appraisals, leave approvals, and recommendations regarding training, selection, and discipline for team members.
Qualifications & Skills
- Educational Background: A degree in Engineering or a related science field with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
- Technical Expertise:
- Proficiency in both Linux and Windows operating environments.
- Strong foundation in thermal-fluid sciences (fluid flow, heat transfer, multi-phase flow, and thermodynamics).
- Familiarity with safety and licensing computer codes, such as CATHENA, NUCIRC, GOTHIC, and MAAP.
- Experience in computer programming (FORTRAN proficiency is highly desirable).
- CANDU System Knowledge: Understanding of the CANDU design, including heat transport systems (HTS), plant control, containment, and moderator systems, is an asset.
- Licensing Experience: Familiarity with regulatory licensing activities is a plus.
- Soft Skills: Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and strong communication abilities.
- Willingness to Travel: Occasional travel to meetings and workshops may be required.
