Job Overview
This position is for support of projects for OPG’s centralized Telephone System. OPG’s Centralized Telephone System is built from Avaya servers and currently running on Avaya Red Release 8 with additional interfacing connections to Microsoft Teams, obsolete Avaya Blue hardware, and a Turret System as well as various specialized endpoints such as Public Address systems, Gate opening systems, etc. This system feeds more than 60 OPG locations across the province of Ontario including sites in Northwest Operations, Eastern Operations, Northeastern Operations, Niagara Operations, Nuclear Operations and Corporate. The system is complex with specialized users such as control room operators and call centre agents. The system allows for a variety of user endpoints: digital phones, analog phones, voice over IP phones, softphone clients, and video conferencing rooms. There are ongoing projects to migrate any existing Avaya Blue OPG locations to the Avaya Red Centralized system. There are also ongoing projects to upgrade the entire Centralized system from Avaya Red Release 8 to Avaya Red Release 10.
The successful applicant will be involved in tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:
- Team and Vendor Discussions on requirements and designs for each site and preparation of requirements documentation and design documentation
- Reaching out to regional IT personnel to bring additional understanding to installation requirements for remote sites or get support on specific project tasks
- Walkdowns of new installation sites to determine the pre-requisites for phone system migrations
- Determine the materials needed for site installations and support the procurement and delivery of such materials (i.e. switches, fiber & copper connections, telephone system hardware, paging adaptors, rack hardware, etc.)
- Hardware, Software and Systems Test Plans and Reports for both the laboratory and on-site installation, integration, testing, migration and commissioning of the new telephone system hardware
- On-site installation, testing, migration and commissioning support
Qualifications
The required qualifications for this position are:
- Engineering Degree or Technologist Diploma
- Hardware, Software and Systems Build & Testing Experience
- Systems Integration Experience
- On-site build and commissioning experience
- Ability to be Nuclear site security cleared and ability to travel to sites such as Darlington Nuclear Generating Station, Pickering Nuclear Generating Station, Niagara regional plants, Durham regional sites, Bruce Power, etc.
- Experience in selection of materials at the hardware level such as Ethernet patch cords, network cabinets, network switches, servers, etc.
- Details-orientated, self-driven, team player
- Ability to think critically is a must
- Experience in Telecom Systems or Network Architecture a plus
- Experience in Building power a plus
- Experience at an Electrical Generating station a plus
- Experience with labour unions a plus
