I&C Engineer
To help achieve our business plans, Bruce Power currently has an exciting contractor opportunity for Engineer/Engineering Trainee in the Nuclear Systems Engineering section of the Plant Engineering department. The Nuclear systems team is responsible for overseeing the preventative maintenance, asset management and general health of equipment on the primary or reactor side.
This specific posting is for I&C engineering with ideally background in reactor control & regulating systems.
General Accountabilities:
As a member of the System and Component Engineering Department team, the contractor employee will be part of a team responsible for the strategic and long-term equipment reliability strategies for both the Bruce A and B stations. This team is accountable for the engineering functions that enable sustained improvements in Bruce Power’s overall equipment performance. A key attribute is application of innovative processes and practices that support the same outcome with less resources being expended.
The contractor engineer is responsible for planning, evaluating, advising, or reporting on any activity which requires the application of engineering principles in the Bruce Power facilities.
Specific Accountabilities
- Provides technical evaluations, advice and solutions to problems in a number of major work areas; including in support of commissioning, operation and maintenance of Bruce Power facilities.
- Monitor’s performance of equipment associated with their functional area to ensure operation is within design, licensing, and operating parameters.
- Identifies potential problems and opportunities in their assigned functional areas and/or systems.
- Prepares submissions outlining potential solutions to problems including cost justification or financial evaluations as appropriate.
- Discusses installation or implementation with persons concerned, and ensures, where possible, that the installation is as intended.
- Keeps abreast of maintenance and operating problems and takes action to implement solutions when appropriate.
- Cooperates with other departments and organizations in arranging tests and maintenance and in providing appropriate documentation as required.
- Keeps abreast of new developments related to their functional area and incorporates changes as appropriate.
- Ensures that documentation associated with their functional area is accurate and updated.
- Interacts with external organizations to review performance in their functional area.
- Provides input to and reviews modifications performed on equipment related to their functional area.
- Participates in training programs to further own development and assists in the development of others.
- May be required to gather and collate data for use in department/section budget or business planning preparation and to monitor variances to annual budget.
- Previous experience with reliability engineering or asset management will be considered as an asset.
- Review relevant industry Operating Experience and regulatory requirements and initiate actions as necessary.
- Establish, maintain and improve a comprehensive system performance monitoring/trending/analyzing and reporting plan.
- Serve as leader for assigned systems and their respective cross functional health teams to improve equipment reliability.
- Develop and maintain both a short-term and long-term system plan inclusive of aging/obsolescence, materials degradation, Life Cycle Management, critical spare parts, and life extension issues.
- Identify and quantify risks along with mitigating actions associated with the system.
- Initiate design changes to improve equipment reliability. Provide conceptual design input, then monitor and accept for service.
- Performs other duties as required.
Skills, Knowledge and Qualifications
- Requires knowledge of I&C, mechanical and process systems to technically understand the operation of the facility.
- Requires knowledge of English in order to prepare clear and concise reports and recommendations both verbally and in writing. Ability to interface effectively with operations, maintenance, other technical staff, regulators and other stakeholders.
- Requires experience to solve problems, to provide advice and guidance, to initiate developmental studies and to make recommendations during the design, commissioning and operation of a nuclear facility; to evaluate components or materials, and to perform economic studies and evaluations associated with the design, commissioning and operation of a nuclear facility.

Education and Experience Minimum Requirements :
- Completion of a 4 year University degree in Engineering.
- An Ontario Professional Engineering designation is desirable (P. Eng.) or required to be working towards a valid Professional Engineers of Ontario certification within 4 years.
- A period of over 6 years and up to and including 8 years experience is considered necessary.
