Important Information:
Contract Length: 6 months
Location: mainly remote but would need to visit the Chalk River Laboratories, Chalk River, Ontario once to meet with the team they would be working with.
Hours: This role is a 75% position – 25 to 30 hours per week for the term. The current team works Monday to Thursday on 4 x 10 hour schedule. For a 30 hour week (75%) the designer would expected to work from Monday to Thursday, 7.5 hours each day between 7:00am and 5:00pm EDT.
Key activities include:
- Ensure safety is paramount in all activities.
- Interpret blueprints and technical drawings to ensure accurate implementation of design specifications.
- Create detailed 3D models, drawings, kinematic simulations and various visuals using computer aided design (CAD) software such as AutoCAD and Autodesk REVIT.
- Create and maintain Revit families and Sketch-Up models as required.
- Implement improvements to existing processes related to Revit usage.
- Provide supervision and training to other drafting personnel to ensure quality and consistency in design output.
- Generate sketches to conceptualize and communicate ideas effectively.
- Author technical reports and specifications detailing methodologies, materials, and procedures.
- Estimate volumes of required materials based on specifications and decommissioning needs.
- Assemble comprehensive documentation packages and drawing sets for construction and regulatory approval.
- Review drawings for adherence to standards, specifications, and potential errors.
- Create client presentation materials including sketches, renderings, models, and graphics.
- Prepare documents including details, sections, elevations, and schedules.
- Demonstrate understanding of construction practices.
- Execute tasks with attention to detail and efficiency.
- Implement internal and external quality control procedures.
- Coordinate work with project managers, engineers, and technicians across various design disciplines.
- Communicate progress updates and estimated completion times to project leads.
- Assist project managers with model presentations for project teams and client meetings.
Qualifications:
- Secondary School Graduation Diploma or equivalent and normally has more than 3 years pertinent progressive experience or the equivalent in experience, additional education and/or training or
- Graduation from a recognized institute of advanced technology in a field relevant to the position, or equivalent formal education.
- Able to prepare drawings for architectural, civil, and mechanical systems.
- Able to prepare various documents to support work plans such as figures, maps, diagrams and illustrations
- Able to revise existing CAD and hand drawings or sketches.
- Working with close, frequent, and systematic supervision
- Showing clear understanding of the work that is assigned.
- Interpreting marked up drawings.
- Taking field measurements and producing “existing condition” sketches to be developed into as built drawings.
- Must possess a working knowledge of drafting technique and practice.
- Must be capable of producing neat, legible, and accurate drawings in reasonable time.
- Must possess a working knowledge of mathematics.
- Must possess knowledge of standard construction equipment, processes, and materials in both civil and architectural fields
- Proficiency in both written and oral communication is required.
- Initiative, motivation, and good people skills to work with peers as well as both internal and external.customers in a team environment.

- Able to implement both internal and external quality control procedures to ensure the delivery of highquality work.
- Adaptable in taking direction and actively participating in quality reviews of work products.
- Skilled in developing 3D models and content to the specified Level of Development (LOD) outlined by project requirements.
- Capable of adhering to guidelines outlined in dismantling execution plans and decommissioning sequence plans.
- Possesses excellent verbal communication, analytical thinking, and reasoning skills.
- Demonstrates the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, providing mentorship on BIM design best practices.
- Effectively manages time constraints to deliver quality results within specified project deadlines.
- Brings extensive experience in the nuclear design field, applying specialized knowledge to Revit design projects.
- Demonstrates proficiency in both written and verbal communication skills.
- Excels at working under and meeting tight deadlines.
- Exhibits excellent proficiency in utilizing Revit Software for design tasks.
- Applies industrial design experience to enhance Revit design processes and outcomes
