Civil Design Engineer

Summary:
- Under broad supervision, performs more complex engineering assignments requiring originality, ingenuity and the development of new methods or resolution of conflicting objectives by using established methodologies and applying sound engineering principles.
- Provides advanced structural technical support, guides and reviews the work of other team members.
- Reviews progress and updates management, as needed.
- Provide civil/structural design engineering support for Steam Generator Replacement Project. Roles include development and verification of calculations as well as analysis of existing structures to support project execution. Provide engineering justification/approval for requested construction changes, and support required design changes to existing engineering documents. Provide knowledge in structural steel and concrete design and installation, and the ability to quickly resolve field issues which warrant engineering changes.
- Major Duties:
- Performs a variety of more complex engineering assignments typically in areas of design, development, analysis, evaluation, testing, preparation of specifications, execution of field tasks and resolution of field problems.
- Prepare design change notice (DCN) packages in accordance with customer engineering change procedures
- Support field construction and execution activities including field change notices, design revisions, commissioning, and EC closeout.
- Receives minimal assistance and instruction on most assignments and solutions.
- Ensures compliance with government, organization and customer engineering standards including CSA S16, A23.3, N291, S136, and S157
- Independently evaluates, selects and applies a variety of technical techniques, procedures, and criteria using judgement in making more complex adaptations and modifications.
- Develops new or adapted products, methods, systems or models to provide added value solutions to customers.
- Researches and assesses best practices, proposing methods and improvements.
- Coordinates engineering work performed by subcontractors and vendors
- Coordinates work performed by junior staff
- Coordinates change requests from construction and procurement
- Works on special projects, as directed.
- Performs other related duties and tasks, as required.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Advanced knowledge of related engineering standards, techniques and criteria ; Good communication skills including the ability to comprehend and convey detailed technical data ; Ability to develop and maintain good interpersonal relationships ; Strong problem identification and problem resolutions skills.
Required Education, Experience and Skills:
- BS in Civil Engineering/Engineering Tech. plus 8-10 years of engineering experience.
- An advanced degree may be substituted for related exp. (MS 1-2 yrs. or PhD 1-3 yrs.). In applicable provinces/states a P.Eng or PE license will be accepted in lieu of 4 yr. engineering degree .

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
- Licensed P.Eng. in Province of Ontario is preferred
- Possesses advanced knowledge in particular field(s) of specialization, including CANDU nuclear reactors and associated plant systems, and has completed significant work assignments, preferably larger projects (>$20M).
- Has well-developed leadership qualities ; Superb written and verbal communication skills ; Proficiency with PC-based applications such as MS Office ; Ability to interact effectively with all levels of staff and management ; Ability to change priorities quickly, confront issues directly and work well as part of a team ; Business acumen ; Engineering Organizations may have additional qualification requirements with established criterion to demonstrate success
