The BC Hydro Engineering Team provides engineering expertise and support to hydroelectric facilities, high voltage transmission, substations, and distribution facilities. Engineering also provides project management, design, contract, and construction management as well as maintenance and emergency response services to the company and select external clients.
We currently have two exciting opportunities for Intermediate and Senior Level Engineers in the Transmission Lines Electrical Design team. These positions will be responsible for performing electrical studies for new and existing transmission overhead systems and developing and maintaining engineering standards.
The key accountabilities for these positions are:
• Conduct electrical studies related to the design of high voltage transmission lines including, but not limited to, grounding system design, step and touch potentials calculations, AC interference with pipelines/railways, lightning protection, electrical safety, radio interference, audible noise, and EMF analysis.
• Work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary engineering team to design transmission lines rated at 60 kV to 500 kV.
• Develop and maintain relevant engineering standards.
• Manage medium and large-sized projects and work packages, write technical specifications and standards, and prepare estimates.
• Prepare, review, and sign the study reports and drawings.
• Provide technical and site support during the installation, commissioning and maintenance phases.
• Manage client relationships to ensure their needs are met and to work closely with stakeholders to drive innovation, find engineering solutions that add value, address competing interests at least life cycle cost, and to reach consensus.
• Develop and maintain effective professional relationships with internal and external colleagues to determine relative priorities, assess the impact of work on others and resolve issues of concern.
• Review the work of the consultants and contractors to ensure accuracy, achievement of required results, and adherence to accepted engineering practice.
• You may perform the Owner's Engineer Lead role on projects where some or all the engineering work is done by a third party such as an outside consultant or equipment vendor. As an Owner's Engineer Lead, you will coordinate and lead the internal review and acceptance of work designed by a third party.
• Impart engineering knowledge and encourage the professional development of engineers as well as coaching and mentoring of junior staff is a key responsibility in this role.
