Responsibilities:
- Lead activities and provide design solutions and assessments for new, updated and modified process systems, structures and components.
- Supervise the detailed design of process systems, equipment and modifications thereof including their layout, design, analysis, support, and registration.
- Perform thermalhydraulic evaluations on complex systems.
- Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and leadership to engineers and/or other technical employees.
- Provide leadership to team on assigned tasks, ensure adherence to project delivery requirements and schedule.
- Interface with internal and external stake holders.
- Support Engineering Management with timely updates on engineering progress.
- Ensure adherence to company quality program.
- Prepare and /or review design documents for Nuclear Power Plants, e.g., Design Calculation, Design Requirements, Assessments, Technical Specifications, Drawings, Bill of Materials, and System Code Classification.
- Prepare and/or review Engineering Quotation Request and Tender Technical Evaluations.
- Perform walkdowns, attend site visits and meetings as required.
- Ensure applicable code, standards and regulatory requirements are met.
- Provide nuclear process and safety design system expertise in support of Engineering proposals and requests from existing stations.
The ideal candidate
- Registered as a Professional Engineer in Ontario
- Engineering degree from an accredited University in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering or Engineering Science.
- A minimum of 20 years of experience and 10 years leading teams in CANDU nuclear process-system design/analysis, providing design solutions for CANDU nuclear power plants.
- Experience performing work to nuclear power plants procedures and practices and qualifications for nuclear power plants engineering activities.
- Must have excellent technical/practical skills and solid understanding of CANDU design to resolve engineering issues or technical problems.
- Experience performing heat balance and thermalhydraulic evaluations.
- Experience in nuclear process system design and layout.
- Knowledge of analytical tools used for mechanical and process design; e.g., ANSYS, Mathcad, Flomaster, NUCIRC, CATHENA or similar.
- Working knowledge of/experience using nuclear Codes and Standards, including CSA N285.0, ASME Section III, and REGDOC-2.5.2.
- Working knowledge of/experience with the CSA B51 standard, ASME B31.1 codes and other nuclear-power-plant applicable standards or regulatory guides related to permanent plant components, pressure boundary equipment, and/or reactor systems.
- Must have excellent communication and technical writing skills.
- Demonstrate good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Site experience in construction, or commissioning of plant mechanical systems for nuclear or other heavy industries is an asset.
- Eligible for Security Clearance through Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC).
MUST be Mechanical / Chemical. Heat balanance / Thermohydraulic experience. Design. Design of pump, piping, NOT replacement. Codes CSA N285.0, ASME Section III, and REGDOC-2.5.2.
