Responsibilities:
- Provide design solutions for nuclear waste management equipment, environmental assessments, and licensing support for new, updated, and modified waste management equipment, structures and components.
- Prepare and /or review design documents for Nuclear Plant and/or Facility waste management equipment including but not limited to Design Guides, Design Requirements, Decontamination, Decommissioning, ALARA and BAT Assessments, etc.
- Prepare and/or review Engineering Quotation Request and Tender Technical Evaluations for the waste management equipment.
- Ensure applicable code, standards and regulatory requirements are met.
- Provide support for the preparation of Engineering proposals.
- Perform walkdowns, attend site visits and meetings as required.
- Interface with internal and external stake holders as required.
- Ensure adherence to company quality program.
- Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and leadership to engineers at lower grade levels and/or other technical employees.
- Familiarity with the waste management equipment developments in the industry.
Qualifications:
- Registered as a Professional Engineer in Ontario
- Engineering degree from an accredited University in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering or Engineering Science.
- A minimum of 15 years of experience in heavy water and tritium management, waste management, radiation and environmental protection, environmental impact assessment, refurbishment, safe storage, decommissioning and ALARA (As Low As is Reasonably Achievable) and BAT assessment of CANDU design.
- Working knowledge of/experience using nuclear Codes and Standards related to waste management, decommissioning, environmental assessments, including CNSC REGDOC-2.7.1, REGDOC-2.5.2, REGDOC-2.9.1, REGDOC-2.9.2, REGDOC-2.11, and REGDOC-2.11.2, CSA N292 series, CSA N294, CSA N285.0, ASME Section III.
- Working knowledge of/experience with the CSA B51 standard, ASME B31.1 codes and other nuclear-power-plant applicable standards or regulatory guides related to permanent plant components, pressure boundary equipment, and/or reactor systems.
- Experience performing work to nuclear power plants procedures and practices and qualifications for nuclear power plants engineering activities.
- Additional, preferred qualifications:
- Knowledge of waste management process system design and layout.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrate good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Site experience in construction, or commissioning of plant mechanical systems for nuclear or other heavy industries.
- Eligible for Security Clearance through Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC).
- Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills, with strong customer focus.
